HC Deb 21 December 1967 vol 756 cc534-5W
Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Technology what his current estimate is of the total cost to Her Majesty's Government of the Concorde development.

Mr. Stonehouse:

The latest (1966) estimate agreed with the French Government indicates £250 million (at January, 1966 prices) in respect of work by the British contractors, plus about £30 million for supporting work at British Government Research and Development Establishments.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Technology what was the estimate of Her Majesty's Government in October, 1964 of the total cost of the Concorde development.

Mr. Stonehouse:

£140 million (at January, 1964 prices) for each country in respect of work by the contractors up to initial certification of airworthiness.

Mr. Elystan Morgan

asked the Minister of Technology what proportion of the total development costs of Concorde to Her Majesty's Government he estimates will have been recovered by 1980.

Mr. Stonehouse:

This depends on the number of aircraft sold and the size of development levy paid. It is too early to make a forecast.
