§ Mr. Leslie Huckfieldasked the Minister of Technology whether his research and experimentation in support of aerospace projects requires the continuation of two separate airfields at Bedford and Farnborough; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Stonehouse:Yes. The R.A.E. cannot operate efficiently without flying facilities at both Farnborough and Bedford. The capital cost of transferring flying, and the research work it supports, from either airfield would be prohibitive.
§ Mr. Leslie Huckfieldasked the Minister of Technology to what extent research and experimentation in support of aerospace projects is duplicated at Bedford and Farnborough airfields; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Stonehouse:There is no duplication in the research or experimental work of the R.A.E. at the two airfields. The nature of the work at Farnborough and at Bedford is quite distinct. The Estab 536W lishment's programme of work is drawn up and reviewed to ensure that duplication does not occur.
