HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c202W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department, in view of his correspondence with local authorities, other employers of labour and trade unions urging them to honour the right of Commonwealth citizens of Sikh religion to wear turbans as required by their faith and long permitted in Crown service overseas, whether he will make a statement on the success his policy has achieved.

Mr. Ennals:

I welcome this opportunity of emphasising the Government's hope that all concerned will show good sense and understanding in applying dress regulations to Sikhs whose faith requires them not to cut their beards and to wear turbans. There are already encouraging indications that this is appreciated.
