HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 c224W
Lord Balniel

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what plans have been submitted to him by the New Towns Commission for the development of new shopping facilities in Old Hatfield; and when he expects to give approval to these plans.

Mr. MacDermot:

The Commission for New Towns has applied for planning permission for comprehensive development—residential, shopping, civic offices, church, public house and petrol filling station together with parking facilities—and the diversion of the Great North Road, with subways, on about 12½ acres of land lying between the main line railway and Park Street/Church Street, Old Hatfield. The application was referred to the Minister under Section 22 of the Town and Country Planning Act, 1962.

Compulsory purchase orders have also been submitted in respect of land required for residential development and for the diversion of the road.

A joint local inquiry was held into these matters on 19th and 20th September, 1967.

The Inspectors' reports are now being considered, and a decision will be issued as soon as possible.
