asked the Minister of Labour what to the nearest convenient date was the total of redundancy payments made by the Government and by industry and the number of payments made.

Mr. Hattersley:

Between 6th December, 1965, when the Redundancy Payments Act came into operation and 31st October, 1967 a total of £67,852,000 was paid under the Act to 336,525 redundant workers. Of this sum £16,848,000 was paid by individual employers and £51,004,000 from the Redundancy Fund which is financed wholly by employers' contributions.
