HC Deb 14 December 1967 vol 756 cc219-20W
Mr. David Webster

asked the Minister of Transport whether she will publish the recommendations and the reports of the Joint Group on Operational Co-ordination commissioned by her Department and dated 31st January, 29th April, and 18th July, 1966, concerning co-operation between municipal and company bus undertakings.

Mr. John Morris:

No. As my right hon. Friend told the hon. Member for Truro (Mr. Geoffrey Wilson) on 8th March, she does not consider that the expense of publishing these very detailed reports would be justified.—[Vol. 742, c.280.]

Mr. Webster

asked the Minister of Transport on how many occasions since 1930, when the railways have submitted that refusal of an application for new bus route or reduction of a service or increase in a road fare would be in the public interest, appeals have been made to the Minister.

Mr. Swingler:

Since 1st January, 1948. the Railways have made 173 appeals to the Minister against the grant of road service licences or against conditions attached to licences by the Traffic Commissioners. Earlier records are not available.

Mr. Webster

asked the Minister of Transport what further reports her Department has commissioned on the Joint Group on Operational Co-ordination be tween municipal and company bus undertakings since 18th July, 1966; and whether she will publish these.

Mr. John Morris:

None. But as my right hon. Friend told the hon. Member for Truro (Mr. Geoffrey Wilson) on 8th March, the 1966 reports are being followed up by the regional passenger transport co-ordinating committees set up earlier this year to bring about immediate short-term improvements in the coordination of public transport services.
