HC Deb 12 December 1967 vol 756 cc98-9W
Mr. Moonman

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs if he will seek powers to deter manufacturers from basing necessary devaluation price increases on previous selling price rather than on cost price, thus increasing profits, and to provide that, in future, Government requests on such matters shall not be ignored.

Mr. Frederick Lee

Manufacturers are being advised by the Government Departments concerned that increases in prices due to devaluation should be no greater than is justified by the increase in overall costs. The Government will make full use of their existing powers in all appropriate cases.
