HC Deb 12 December 1967 vol 756 c98W
84. Mr. Ednyfed Hudson Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Economic Affairs if he is aware that incentives offered in development areas fail to attract industry to many isolated localities of high unemployment; and if he will consider using the powers under Section 2(1)(b) of the Industrial Reorganisation Corporation Act, 1966, to establish industrial enterprises owned and sponsored by the State in these areas.

Mr. Alan Williams

The massive inducements now available to industries to set up in the Development Areas have not yet exerted their full effect. With the coming upswing in the economy much more industry will be setting up in all parts of the Development Areas, including the more isolated localities. If, however, a case arises wheres the I.R.C. may be able to help in particular circumstances my right hon. Friend will not hesitate to ask them.
