asked the Prime Minister whether he will state the basis upon which he estimates that the recent devaluation will not depreciate the internal purchasing power of the£ sterling.

My hon. Friend is presumably misquoting the broadcast of 19th November. In that broadcast I made clear that imports would cost more, and that this would mean higher prices over a period, including the prices of some of our basic foods.
