§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Prime Minister whether he will state the precise date on which Her Majesty's Government made an application to join the European Economic Community; on what date a formal acknowledgement of this application was received; and what date an actual reply was received.
§ The Prime MinisterBritain's application for membership of the European Economic Community under Article 237 of the Treaty of Rome was presented to the President of the European Economic Community Council of Ministers on 11th May. An acknowledgement was received on 7th June, which stated that the Council had set in motion the procedure provided for in this Article of the Treaty. No further reply has been received to date.
