asked the President of the Board of Trade how many industrial development certificates have been issued for the Portsmouth area since 1959; what has been the resulting number of employment vacancies; and what has been the proportionate division of these vacancies between men and women.

During the period 1st January, 1960, to 31st March, 1967, the number of industrial development certificates issued for the Portsmouth area, i.e., the employment exchange areas of Ports- mouth, Gosport, Fareham and Havant, was 172. The additional employment estimated by applicants when their projects are fully manned was 5,200 for males and 3,500 for females.
