HC Deb 26 April 1967 vol 745 cc286-7W
87. Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the President of the Board of Trade what plans have been made to extend the runways at Aldergrove Airport in County Antrim; and if he will state the additional area of agricultural land required for such extension.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

There are no plans for extension at present but the main runway can be extended within the present boundary to cater for all foreseeable types of aircraft used for short and medium haul traffic.

88. Sir Knox Cunningham

asked the President of the Board of Trade when responsibility for the civil airport at Aldergrove in County Antrim will be handed over to the Government of Northern Ireland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. J. P. W. Mallalieu

Responsibility for the Civil Airport at Aldergrove will be handed over to the Government of Northern Ireland as soon as that Government has powers to operate aerodromes. Legislation for this purpose is in preparation.
