HC Deb 17 April 1967 vol 745 cc47-8W
Mr. Clegg

asked the Minister of Transport whether she is aware that long-distance lorry drivers are having to try to sleep in their cabs on the motorway service station; and what plans she has to provide proper rest facilities and accommodation for overnight sleeping.

Mr. Swingler

We do not consider there is an essential need for overnight sleeping at motorway service areas, which are designed for the needs of short-stay users, and have no plans to provide these facilities. The areas are already large and elaborate, and the considerable expenditure and acquisition of extra land involved in this proposal would not be justified.
