HC Deb 17 April 1967 vol 745 cc21-2W
Mr. Alan Lee Williams

asked the Minister of Overseas Development what he is doing to help the developing countries by providing industrial training in Great Britain; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Bottomley

After consultation with Industrial Training Boards, the Confederation of British Industry and the Trades Union Congress, I have prepared, with the help of my right hon. Friend the Minister of Labour, a scheme for this purpose. Under this scheme we will seek to find training places in British industry for several hundred persons a year nominated by the Governments of countries to whom we are giving technical assistance. Practical training will be provided at clearly defined levels and will include placing in sandwich courses.

A booklet describing the conditions under which the trainees will be accepted will be handed by the Ministry of Labour to any employer asked to receive a trainee. I have had copies of the booklet placed in the Library of the House.
