HC Deb 04 April 1967 vol 744 c14W
Mr. Fisher

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs whether he will make a statement about the situation in Sierra Leone in so far as it affects British lives and property.

Mr. Bowden

There are approximately 1,500 U.K. citizens in Sierra Leone. The British High Commissioner in Freetown has been in continuous touch with me about their welfare and I have received helpful reports from British business firms active in Sierra Leone. There have been no incidents involving our community and nothing which has happened since the General Election in Sierra Leone suggests that British lives or property are endangered.
