Mr. Thornton

asked the Secretary of State for Commonwealth Affairs what has been the result of the consultations to effect a reduction in the legally permitted working hours for women and young persons in Hong Kong, who are now permitted by law to work 10 hours per day. six days per week, with 100 hours of overtime per year.

As my right hon. Friend informed the House on 21st March, the Governor has amending legislation under consideration.

The proposed amendments will be presented to the Labour Advisory Board very shortly.
