HC Deb 25 October 1966 vol 734 c141W
Mr. Biggs-Davison

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his latest estimate of the cost to the British economy and balance of payments of sanctions against Rhodesia.

Mr. Callaghan

The direct costs to the Exchaquer amounted, at the end of September, to about £12 million.

United Kingdom exports to Rhodesia from November, 1965, to September, 1966, were £7 million, compared with a rate of £29 million in the first nine months of 1965.

These are gross figures, and do not relate to the total cost to the balance of payments, when all other factors are taken into account.
