HC Deb 29 November 1966 vol 737 c62W
Mr. Roy Hughes

asked the Minister of Housing and Local Government if, in view of the improving housing position in many parts of the country, he will now encourage and assist local authorities to curtail the building of flats and maisonettes and to concentrate their efforts on the building of houses which provide a better family environment.

Mr. MacColl

The mixture of dwelling types appropriate to an area must be related to the needs of that area. Subject to my right hon. Friend being satisfied on matters of cost and standards, this is something for the local authority to determine. But he is certainly not in favour of building higher than is necessary.
