HC Deb 29 November 1966 vol 737 c86W
Q10. Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Prime Minister if he will introduce legislation to ensure that, during the wages standstill periods, salaries on the Civil List shall also be subject to the same control as those of ordinary citizens.

The Prime Minister

No. I am satisfied that no special legislation is needed to ensure that salaries payable from the Civil List are kept in line with the Government's incomes policy. I might also add. as I suspect that this is the real point of my hon. Friend's Question, that the allowance received by the Prince of Wales as Duke of Cornwall is not a salary but a part, and part only, of the net revenues from the Duchy of Cornwall which are his as of right and which he will receive in full on attaining the age of twenty-one. Until he reaches that age the balance of net revenue is applied to reduce issues from the Exchequer under the terms of the Civil List Act, 1952. The value to the Exchequer of these payments in the past 15 years is approximately £1.7 million.
