At 10th October, 1966, total numbers of men

men only, is given below. Our local officers are doing all they can to assist these people to find work.

registered as unemployed at Employment Exchanges in South-West Durham (Bishop Auckland, Crook, Shildon and Spennymoor) were 1,600 and in Northwest Durham (Stanley, Consett and Lanchester), 1,084.

Detailed age analyses of the unemployed register are made only in January and July each year. They relate to the wholly unemployed and exclude casual and temporarily stopped workers. At 11th July, 1966, men aged 50 and over formed 49.7 per cent. and 54.9 per cent. of all wholly unemployed men in South-West Durham and North-West Durham, respectively.
