HC Deb 21 November 1966 vol 736 cc233-4W
Mr. Raymond Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why fixed penalty notices are being served on licensed taxi-drivers who have left their cabs to deliver parcels; and how many such notices have been served during the 12 months ending on the latest convenient date.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Fixed penalty notices are served on taxi drivers as on others if they appear to have committed a parking offence. But it is open to any driver who considers that he has been wrongly served with a notice to make representations. I regret that separate figures in respect of licensed taxi drivers are not available.

Mr. Raymond Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many licensed taxi-drivers have been prosecuted for failing to be in attendance with their cabs during the 12 months ending on the latest convenient date; and how many of those prosecuted were taking meals at the relevant time.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Ninety-nine in the Metropolitan Police District during the 12 months ended 30th September, 1966. No information is available as to how many of the drivers concerned were taking meals at the relevant time.

Mr. Raymond Fletcher

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many summonses have been issued, under Section 33 of the London Hackney Carriage Act 1843, against licensed taxi-drivers for plying for hire elsewhere than at some standing or place appointed for the purpose during the 12 months ending on the latest convenient date.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

46 during the twelve months ended 30th September 1966.
