asked the Secretary of State for Defence whether he will consider extending the present period of three months during which newly joined men, particularly apprentices, may apply for release from Her Majesty's Forces.

The Army and Air Force have arrangements which seem to work well. We are going to bring in a comparable arrangement for the Royal Navy, and I would like to see how well that works before giving thought to extending it.
