asked the Secretary of State for Defence what was the cost of British forces and military installations in the Persian Gulf in each of the years 1963, 1964 and 1965; and what expenditure is planned for that area in 1966 and 1967.

Mr. Healey

The estimated attributable theatre costs of our forces in the Persian Gulf were about £25 million in 1965–66. Allowing for price increases the figure for 1966–67 is similar. Figures for earlier years are not available. I am not prepared at this stage to publish forecasts for 1967–68.
