§ Mr. Mackintoshasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science how the capital and recurrent grants to the Scot- 130W tish universities over the years 1963 to 1966, expressed in terms of pounds per student, compare with the money granted to the English universities over the same years, expressed in the same form.
§ Mr. Goronwy RobertsThe recurrent and capital grants to the Scottish Universities and comparable figures for universities in England and Wales are given below for the years 1963–1966.
Figures are given for recurent grants in terms of pounds per student but these should be interpreted with caution as the cost per student depends on the balance of different types of student and course in each institution.
Capital expenditure in any particular year is in respect of projects started in a number of years and is not related to student numbers in that year. Figures for capital expenditure in terms of pounds per student would therefore not be meaningful.
