HC Deb 04 May 1966 vol 727 c126W
Mr. James Davidson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he is aware that the matrons of old people's homes under county welfare departments in Scotland frequently receive lower remuneration for longer hours than domestic servants employed in the same establishments; and what steps he will take to rectify the matter.

Mr. Ross

I understand that in certain circumstances this can happen although the basic salary scales for matrons are a good deal higher than for domestic servants. The negotiation of salary scales is a matter for the appropriate joint negotiating machinery.
