§ Miss Alice BaconDuring 1964 there were 77 escapes from closed prisons, 313 from open prisons and 114 from outside working parties etc. I regret that figures for attempts are not available. Appendix No. 8 to the Report on the Work of the Prison Department (Cmnd. 2708) gives an analysis of offences and punishments in prisons but no analysis is made of punishments imposed for particular offences.
