HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c566W
Sir H. Legge-Bourke

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will give figures for the increases between 1964 and 1965 for gross domestic product, output per man hour, retail prices, public expenditure, and average weekly earnings.

Mr. MacDermot

Estimates for the year 1965 for gross domestic product, output per man hour and public expenditure, are not yet complete. They will be available at about the end of this month. The average figure for the Index of Retail Prices in 1965 was about 4¾ per cent. higher than the corresponding average for 1964; but the rise in recent months has been substantially less than this figure. Average weekly earnings of manual wage earners covered by the Ministry of Labour's half-yearly inquiries were 8½ per cent. higher in October 1965 than in October 1964.
