HC Deb 09 March 1966 vol 725 c538W
Mr. Awdry

asked the Minister of Transport if she will make a statement on the recent visit to Washington of the delegation from her Department which was headed by her Chief Scientific Adviser.

Mr. Swingler

The delegation, which also included the Director of the Road Research Laboratory, went to the United States to learn at first hand what progress the United States Government are making in their programmes of technological research in transport and to see what bearing this work could have on the future development of transport, and on research programmes in the transport field, in this country.

Through the kindness of the American authorities the delegation had made available to them much useful information about long range research and about short term experiments and demonstration projects in the public transport field. It is clear that the United States authorities are finding many of the same difficulties that we are in this country and we shall continue to exchange ideas with them.
