§ 142. Mr. Robert Howarthasked the Postmaster-General what is the general level of assistance given to sub-post offices to help the proprietor protect from thieves the mail and money which are entrusted to his care; whether he is satisfied that it is adequate; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Joseph SlaterSub-postmasters are employed on an agency basis and are responsible for their own security precautions. In crime-prone areas we provide free bandit alarms and certain anti-burglar devices at many sub-post offices, as well as giving all sub-postmasters advice designed to promote high standards of security.
While thefts continue, one can never be wholly satisfied with security arrangements. Their adequacy to meet new crime trends is kept under constant review, and we intend to continue to improve them.
