HC Deb 28 July 1966 vol 732 cc332-3W
Mr. Hooson

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what proportion of the total subsidies to Great Britain was paid to farmers in Wales and Monmouthshire in each of the last three financial years;

(2) what were the total payments by way of agricultural subsidies paid to farmers in Wales and Monmouthshire in each of the last three financial years and what was the total number of farmers who received the benefit of such subsidies.

Mr. John Mackie

The total payments by way of farming grants and subsidies to farmers in Wales and Monmouthshire and the proportions they represent of corresponding payments in the United Kingdom were as follows:

Financial Year Amount £m. Proportion Amount of U.K. Payments Per cent
1963–64 8.5 8.1
1964–65 10.3 9.5
1965–66 (subject to final adjustment and audit) 10.2 9.7

I regret that information about payments to farmers in Wales and Monmouthshire under the agricultural price guarantees and about the number of farmers who received the benefit of the subsidies cannot be produced without undue expenditure of time and effort.
