HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 cc289-90W
Mr. Brooks

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he will introduce legislation to ensure that all animals killed for human consumption in slaughterhouses shall be stunned with a humane killer before being bled.

Mr. John Mackie

No. The law requires such animals (excluding poultry) to be stunned, except those slaughtered by Jews for the food of Jews or by Mohammedans for the food of Mohammedans. A Bill introduced by my hon. Friend the Member for Bury and Radcliffe, at present before the House, would extend similar arrangements to poultry.
