HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c299W
Mr. Kershaw

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what representations he has received on revaluing the penny so as to make 10 pennies in a shilling; and what reply he has sent.

Mr. MacDermot

Seven letters have been received from one of the hon. Member's constituents on this subject. Replies have been sent explaining why the Government decided to decimalise the currency on the basis of retaining the £ and why the penny revaluation scheme would not be suitable.

Mr. Kershaw

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will instruct the Decimal Currency Board to consider proposals for the revaluation of the penny.

Mr. MacDermot

No.
