HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c304W
Mr. Ridley

asked the First Secretary of State and Secretary of State for Economic Affairs what manpower surplus he estimates will be produced by Christmas 1966 by the Government's recent economic measures.

Mr. George Brown

While there may be some rise in short-term unemployment by Christmas 1966 there is little likelihood of there being a long-term manpower surplus. There are jobs in essential industry for those who can move.
