HC Deb 27 July 1966 vol 732 c262W
66. Mrs. Cullen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what steps he is taking to obviate the use of accommodation at Barlinnie Prison for youths sentenced to detention in young offenders' institutions.

Mr. Willis

Extensions providing a further 100 places are to be built at the Edinburgh and Dumfries young offenders' institutions, and my right hon. Friend will keep the need for further accommodation under review. Owing to the greatly increased numbers being committed to this form of custody, however, it will be necessary to retain the young offenders' unit at Barlinnie for some time to come.
