HC Deb 26 July 1966 vol 732 c228W
Mr. Biffen

asked the Prime Minister what is the expected change in the Ministry of Labour wage rate index between now and end of 1966, and during the first half of 1967. as a result of his recent proposals.

Mr. Gunter

I have been asked to reply.

There will be some movement in the Index in July as a result of increases already paid. As to future movements, the arrangements for the detailed application of the standstill are being discussed with management and unions, and until these are completed no estimate can be made.

Mr. Biffen

asked the Prime Minister if he proposes to use the Ministry of Labour wage rate index to gauge the success or otherwise of his recent proposals.

Mr. Gunter

I have been asked to reply.

In assessing the development of our policy the Government will have regard to a variety of economic indicators including the wage rates index.
