HC Deb 22 July 1966 vol 732 c161W
Dr. Bennett

asked the Minister of Technology whether he is aware that investigations into the dispersion of sewage from sea outfalls by the Water Pollution Research Laboratory had to be restricted to a single site during 1965; and whether, in view of public concern about the increasing pollution of beaches and the need for greater improvements in sewage disposal by many coastal authorities, he will arrange for the investigations by the Water Pollution Research Laboratory to be intensified so far as coastal pollution is concerned.

Mr. Benn

The studies in 1965 were of a fundamental nature and a concentrated effort on one site was thought likely to be more rewarding than undertaking widespread work. Work is continuing this year with the object of developing basic theories, which, it is proposed, will be tested at a number of sites next year.
