HC Deb 22 July 1966 vol 732 c161W
Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Technology by how much the Department under his control is at present under establishment.

Mr. Benn

At 1st July, 272 non-industrial staff and 121 industrial staff.

Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Technology what steps he is taking, in the light of the present economic crisis, to reduce the establishment of the Department under his control.

Mr. Benn

The manpower needs of my Department are regularly reviewed but, since it has a vital part to play in the promotion of industrial efficiency and technological progress, it would not be sensible to reduce the establishment which we need and are now recruiting.
