HC Deb 22 July 1966 vol 732 cc169-70W
Mrs. Joyce Butler

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mr. George Clark, who has been on hunger-strike in Parliament Square since 5th July as a protest against the war in Vietnam, was brought by police before the magistrate at Bow Street Magistrate's Court at 3 p.m. on Friday 15th July for failure to submit to bail at 10 a.m. on that day, despite the fact that a medical certificate of his unfitness to plead through debility and exhaustion had been accepted on behalf of the court when the court opened at 10 a.m.

Mr. Roy Jenkins

Because the magistrate had subsequently issued a warrant for his arrest.
