Notes. |
1. All figures are for financial years except where indicated. |
2. Tax payments, except in the case of the Transport Holding Company, have been insignificant. |
3. Up to and including 1962, the Boards' accounts were on a calendar year basis and thereafter by financial years. The assets figures shown prior to 1952 are incomplete because it is not possible to determine compensation payable on all assets vested in the Board. All figures are rounded to the nearest £m. |
4. The results of the South East and South West Scotland Boards are included in the figures for the years up to and including 1954.55. All figures are rounded to the nearest £m. |
5. Prior to 1964 the Board accounted by calendar years. Figures have been abstracted for each year since 1955 when the South of Scotland Electricity Board was set up. |
6. The figures for 1955 relates only to the 9 months from 1st April when the Board became autonomous, to 31st December. Accounts then continued by calendar years until 1963; for 1964.65 it was changed to a financial year basis. |
7. The figure for 1949.50 relates only to an 11 month period. All figures have been rounded to the nearest £m. |
8. The figures in respect of the Corporations subsidiaries are not readily available and have been omitted. They would not be significant. The asset figures represent the total assets after allowing for current liabilities. |
9. After 1962 the British Transport Commission was replaced by five successor bodies set up under the Transport Act 1962. Accounting of all these bodies is by calendar years. |
10. Figures of turnover exclude the Thomas Cook Group since the operations of this Group make it impossible to abstract a comparable figure. |
