HC Deb 21 July 1966 vol 732 cc116-7W
39. Mr. J. E. B. Hill

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his estimate of the number of recognised and of unrecognised English language schools and of students currently attending these; and what are his proposals for speeding up the process of inspection and shortening the period between inspections.

Mr. Goronwy Roberts

The 41 schools recognised as efficient by the Department and providing courses of English for foreign students had some 8,000 students in attendance in November, 1965. I am not able to make corresponding estimates for unrecognised schools. Inspections of schools which apply for recognition are arranged as quickly as possible, and as far as manpower allows recognised schools are revisited at least once a year.
