HC Deb 20 July 1966 vol 732 c98W
80. Mr. John Smith

asked the Minister of Transport what has been the total cost of electrifying the London-Manchester line.

Mr. John Morris

Signalling, track and other works are associated with electrification in the London-Midland scheme, which will also serve terminals other than Manchester and London. The cost of electrification between London and Manchester alone cannot readily be isolated. The cost of the scheme as a whole when completed is not expected to exceed the authorised estimate of £175 million.
