asked the Minister of Transport if she will give a general direction, in the public interest, that the site of any disused railway, including stations, sidings, etc., shall, when disposed of by the Railways Board, in all appropriate cases be offered to the local authority for purchase for public purposes.

No. I would refer my hon. Friend to the Answer given to my hon. Friend the Member for Central Ayrshire (Mr. Manuel) on Wednesday, 15th June, 1966.

The Ministry of Housing and Local Government will shortly be informing local authorities about arrangements proposed for the disposal of the surplus land of the nationalised industries generally, including the railways.
