Mr. Onslow

asked the Minister of Power what estimate he has made of the demand for steel supplies on the part of the reinforced concrete industry for the years 1966–67 and 1967–68 ; and how this compares with the actual demand of this industry for each of the last three years.

Dr. Bray

The Iron and Steel Board estimate that the consumption of steel for concrete reinforcement was 650,000 tons in 1963, 811,000 tons in 1964, and 855,000 tons in 1965. The Board forecast that consumption in 1966–67 is likely to be about 750,000 tons, and in 1967–68 about 855,000 tons.
