§ Mr. MellishI regret that this information is not available.
§ 53. Mr. Hiltonasked the Minister of Housing and Local Government what was the total value of housing contracts awarded by local authorities during 1965 on a negotiated tender basis to private building contractors and municipal building departments, respectively.
§ Mr. MellishThe total value of housing contracts awarded to private contractors and direct labour departments in 1965 was £430,221,095 and £41,859,502 respectively. Twenty-nine per cent. of the contracts awarded to private contractors were negotiated. I have no details of the value of these contracts but they accounted for 37,.5 per cent. of all contractor-built dwellings. Figures for the proportion of direct labour schemes which did not go to competition are not available.
