§ 88. Sir C. Osborneasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the fact that paragraph 15, page 6, of Command Paper No. 2739 laid down that Her Majesty's Government's policy was to restrict the number of immigrants to not more than 8,500 per year, plus 1,000 from Malta, and that Command Paper No. 2979 shows a net balance of 75,499 immigrants in 1964 and 63,819 in 1965, he will now give an assurance that the policy of Command Paper No. 2739 will be carried out ; what representations he has received on this matter, and from whom ; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. Shirley WilliamsCommand Paper 2739 stated that 8,500 vouchers, including 1,000 for Malta, would be issued annually, and vouchers are being issued at that rate.
The figures quoted by the hon. Member from Command Paper 2979 are the difference between all admissions and embarkations. They include many persons other than voucher holders.
