§ 93. Sir G. Nabarroasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why Mohammed Khan, aged 14 years, was detained at London Airport on arrival from Karachi on 10th July ; when he was released ; what are his present whereabouts ; whether he is to be repatriated to Pakistan and, having regard to the representations made to his Department by the National Council for Civil Liberties, whether he will allow Mohammed Khan to remain in Great Britain ; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Roy JenkinsMohammed Khan arrived in this country without an entry certificate despite the fact that he had been refused admission in similar circumstances a year ago. Then, as now, we were not satisfied that he was the son of Mr. Mohammed Alam, who claimed to be his father. On this occasion, at Mr. Alam's request, the boy's return to Pakistan was delayed to allow more time for the claim to be established, but no further relevant evidence had been produced by 13th July when the boy was sent back. We have sought the assistance of the authorities in Pakistan, as well as that of the Pakistan High Commission here, in establishing the true position. When this 63W is clear I shall be ready to consider an application, if one is made, for an entry certificate ; but I must first be confident of the facts about the boy and the person with whom he is to live.
