HC Deb 18 July 1966 vol 732 c7W
64. Mr. Boston

asked the Secretary of State for. Foreign Affairs what action has been taken about the offer by Her Majesty's Government of logistic support for up to six battalions of a United Nations peacekeeping force since the offer was made last year.

Mrs. White

The Secretary-General was, of course, informed of Her Majesty's Government's offer, but has not yet found it necessary to call on us for any specific action in fulfilment of it. I would, how-every, draw my hon. Friend's attention to the fact that we are making a major contribution to the administrative support for the United Nations force in Cyprus.

65. Mr. Boston

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of the steps which have been taken by Her Majesty's Government over the past 12 months to further the creation by the United Nations of a peacekeeping force.

Mrs. White

For the reasons given in my reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Hampstead (Mr. Whitaker) on 17th June, it has not proved possible to make progress with the establishment of a permanent force. Her Majesty's Government have played a constructive and active part both in the efforts to overcome the lack of international agreement which prevents progress, and in supporting existing United Nations peace-keeping activities.
