HC Deb 04 July 1966 vol 731 cc12-3W
83. Mr. Park

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs if he will make a statement on the discussions which he has held in South-East Asia.

Mr. M. Stewart

My visit to South-East Asia provided a useful opportunity to meet my Ministerial colleagues from the countries in the area. I found a wide measure of agreement amongst us as to the problems of the area and the way in which they should be met. We agreed on the need for the continued strengthening of the countries to face the twin threat of underdevelopment and Communist aggression and I was able to reaffirm our determination to maintain forces in the area sufficient to fulfil our obligations.
