HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 c11W
76. Mr. Hector Hughes

asked the Minister of Pensions and National In surance if she is aware that increased transport fares press hardly on retirement pensioners and unemployed persons, respectively, who have to travel from out lying parts of Scotland to collect their pensions and to register, sign on and receive benefit, respectively; and what steps she will take to reimburse them for expenses thus incurred.

Miss Herbison

I have no evidence that the arrangements for cashing retirement pensions are causing hardship.

Attendance at employment exchanges is not obligatory for any unemployment benefit claimant living over six miles from an employment exchange or for any other claimant for whom such attendance would entail hardship.
