HC Deb 21 February 1966 vol 725 cc14-5W
Mr. Lomas

asked the Minister of Health if he will set up emergency casualty hospitals along the motorways.

Mr. K. Robinson

No. Hospital Boards have been asked to plan their accident and emergency services in accordance with the recommendations of my Standing Medical Advisory Committee's Sub-Committee on Accident and Emergency Services, which envisaged accident and emergency units forming part of a general hospital, ready to deal immediately with major injuries and other emergencies at any time. In planning such units I have no doubt Hospital Boards will have regard to the volume of accidents that may arise on motorways. Boards already have special plans for dealing with major accidents involving numerous casualties.
